Dear Parents

The holidays are upon us and not a moment too soon. I wish that someone far wiser than I am could explain the psychological and emotional impact this disaster of a year has had on us all. What I do know is that our pupils have shown levels of anxiety, disengagement and a sense of hopelessness that has been alarming. My staff are exhausted from not only the academic toll but from carrying the burdens of their pupils too. I pray that this much needed holiday brings the respite we all need.
                                                 Yet I recall this lovely line:
         “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens”
                                                          Ecclesiastes 3
In the midst of this end of term tiredness, when pupils are tetchy and staff are bleary-eyed from marking, I see the sprouting of new shoots on the plants outside and know that life is regenerating. I watched in amazement as a large group of our pupils pulled off their version of the “Jerusalema” Dance and felt their spirit uplifting mine. While athletics season was a time to celebrate physical strength, speed and prowess and while our cultural activities have celebrated persuasive speeches and energising dances, at the end of a grueling set of examinations, we celebrate the results of our academics and praise them for their diligence and hard work. For interest sake, their Junior Schools are also indicated.
